New President Announcement

Friends of the British Overseas Territories is delighted to announce that The Honourable Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson JP will become FOTBOT’s next Honorary President in September.

Mrs. Cartwright-Robinson was premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands between 2016 and 2021, and was TCI’s first female premier. One of the first women in the Turks and Caicos Islands to become a lawyer, she later entered politics, chairing various committees in the Legislative Council, before being elected to the House of Assembly in 2012. After the election, she was elected as leader of her party - the People’s Democratic Movement - serving as Leader of the Opposition until her election as Premier in 2016.

FOTBOT Chief Executive Philip Smith said “We are delighted that The Hon. Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson will be taking up the position of FOTBOT’s Honorary President from September. As the Turks and Caicos Islands’ first female premier, she is not just a distinguished political figure, but a historic one, and we are very excited to work with her over the coming years and hear her views on issues facing the Overseas Territories.”

She will succeed former Cayman Islands Member of the Legislative Assembly Austin Harris, who has served as FOTBOT’s President since 2019.
